Liberty Frank, 2016

Liberty Frank is a rising junior who has been with the GIS lab since 2013.

How did you get involved with the GIS lab?

I am an Anthropology major who transferred from Harford Community College in fall 2013. I got one of those mass emails from Stew about hiring students with X, Y, Z skills, and I have experience with Dreamweaver and Photoshop, as well as video editing, so I thought hey, why not. I came in, interviewed with Stew and met Emily, and was told about the web design projects we were working on, and when could I start? I started a couple of weeks later, after I got my schedule for my other job at the Historical Society of Kent County.

What projects have you worked on?

I worked on setting up the website for the Upper Shore Harvest Directory and the ShorePower Project, but this semester I was put in charge of the Galena website. I’ve worked with Michael Deck and Emily Aiken, and Thomas Pring will be doing some videography for the website at the Dogwood Festival on┬áMay 3rd. I also helped to facilitate the event at the Bordley Building between GIS, the Historical Society, and the Town of Galena.

What are your plans for the summer?

This summer, I will be doing research for the Historical Society of Kent County on the free black landowners in Kent County before the Civil War. I will also be working for the State of Virginia Youth Conservation Corps program as a Supervisor, and I was a crew member in 2012. After YCC, I’ll be returning to my summer camp at Camp Quest Chesapeake as the Counselor-in-Training Coordinator, a program that I have been working on this semester at WAC through an independent study developing a CIT Coordinator Guidebook.
